A Surprise Christmas Blossom

I wrote a post titled Jack Was Busy on 12/12 in which I describe how I received an “extra” gardenia bush in the mail (my favorite blossom fragrance) on our “book release day” with no record of it having been ordered. Of course I’ve described my suspicions that this supposed “accident” was quite possibly an act of energy…my late husband’s energy… to let me know he was still there and celebrating with me. His efforts to deliver this meaningful and timely message to the world in a book was now “out there”… that our consciousness goes on after the physical body dies. And his efforts continued on Christmas Day with one, hard-to-explain flower on that new bush. It was hard to believe since gardenias don’t blossom in the cold of December. Their time to bloom is when the weather turns warmer, and the days are longer like in May. On Christmas Day, that was not the case.

I also admit to having had a little pity party just prior to going out to water this new bush. I was missing him terribly at our favorite time of year. Christmastime was always very special for us, but I found myself immediately stop the tears when I found this flower. It was special and timed perfectly. It really brought me joy. What’s amazing is that this single white gardenia blossom has lasted for five days already, with full fragrance, unlike any other gardenia blossom I have ever had. I’ve thanked him for however he could have given me this flower as the best present he could have “delivered.”

And when I went inside, the living room reading lamp by my chair was flashing. I smiled and knew. I went into a kitchen cabinet to get a small glass to put this little flower in with some other small flowers I had, and a single cocktail napkin fell out of the cabinet and onto the floor. That napkin simply said “Joy.”
