Shared Laughter

Last night I had some people over for dinner and we laughed…we laughed a lot. We found so many stories to laugh about, including many funny stories about my late husband and his sense of humor. It made me feel like he was with us in spirit, and it set the tone for the evening with a momentum that left me so happy and contented for a long time after they left. It always amazes me how sharing laughter with people is such a powerful event on so many levels. It draws people closer because it deepens the connection or the joined joy for the moment. It’s a short miracle of a common energy in the highest frequency of space we can have. It’s an agreement (something not so common in today’s world.) In addition, the brain chemistry is reset. Any worries or anxiety just evaporates for a few seconds and reroutes our neuro-circuitry for the positive, making us mentally healthier. And it’s actually healthy for the body, too. It allows our nervous system to relax, allowing our immune system to strengthen.

I couldn’t help but be reminded how much laughter my husband and I had together. My husband was a funny guy. He always made comments to make people laugh. In fact, keeping it light was what most people miss the most about him since he passed. What a great legacy and a great teacher. Last night I remembered how good it felt, how important it is, and what I want to have more of to be my focus now. I hope to not only keep a positive attitude, but also to make the effort to actively find the humor in the ironies and craziness around us. There is certainly a whole lot of material out there available to us all!

  1. As someone who personally knew you and your late husband and who shared trillions of giggles with you, I can attest to his wonderful sense of humor (and yours)! Laughter is great medicine!!

    1. Thank you! He did love to keep it light, and I feel like keeping his legacy alive will be one of my goals now.
