The Vibrating Cursor

I really have a lot of gratitude for a good life, but sometimes I have to reframe the challenges to see the half full glass of water. Like yesterday…I was trying to learn to to create a link for my wishlist on Amazon for the first time. (I know, I know, I am about a century behind!) Anyway, I was beginning to hover the cursor over my item, and I didn’t see my cursor anymore. It totally disappeared! So I did what I always do…I turned off the computer, walked away from my desk, and gave it a minute to rest and behave itself. (A computer time-out if you will.)

I turned it back on and the cursor was back, and I was in control until it started wiggling like crazy. Needless to say it’s hard to make your cursor hover over an object on the screen once that jiggling moves it off your target. So once again I gave it a time out. After a half hour, I tried one more time, but the cursor was not even appearing on the screen. That was the final straw. I powered down the computer by touching the screen, got in the car and drove it to the nearest Best Buy to have the Geek Squad take a look at it.

The guy at the counter turned on the computer, and the cursor was back. It felt like a game of hide ‘n seek and the cursor was sticking its tongue out at me. The Geek Squad guy powered it down a few times and finally said he couldn’t help me because nothing was wrong. I collected my cord and computer, came home and sure enough…the cursor was back and hasn’t left since then.

Looking back on it, of course I blame my late husband. He had/has a great sense of humor and seems to give me these electronic or electric signs that don’t last. They just interrupt, and always when there’s just been a sadness that comes over me which had happened yesterday after I lead a group on grief and gratitude. If only I hadn’t overreacted to that jiggling cursor and recognized it as a sign, I could have avoided the inconvenience and thanked him for letting me know he was around. He certainly worked hard to try to get my attention, and for that, now I am grateful.
