…and Sometimes It’s Just Not

Once we tend to believe things happen a certain way, we get so used to it that our expectations go on autopilot. This happened to me on Easter morning. I was missing my late husband as I was preparing dishes to go to a family dinner without him. The wish for him to be with me to share the holiday and our family made me weepy, and that made me wish for a sign from him to let me know at least his spirit was around. ( I have shared that this is not unusual for him in the past.)

This particular morning, I had gone outside to pick up large palm tree branches that had blown off the trees in my yard. After breaking them down, I took them to the yard waste container. I noticed a couple of the palm fronds looked like some good faces to paint for holiday craft projects (a hobby of mine.) I brought them inside and put them on the kitchen counter and went to get my garden clippers to neaten them up. I suddenly heard short electronic beeps coming from the stove top control panel…like I was touching different sensors to adjust heat or time or temperature. They were irratic and like nothing I had ever heard before. I smiled really big thinking it was another one of my late husband’s signs. I was so happy with the strange sounds believing automatically that his spirit was around. Beep…. beep beep…..beep beep beep….beep, etc. As I looked toward where the beeps were coming from on that panel, I saw a huge albino frog spread out, walking over all the sensors, beeping away. (Probably came in with the palm fronds.) I was so startled and grabbed a plastic container to throw over it, tossing it outside as quickly as I could. I really had to laugh. Sometimes a seemingly unexplained noise is a sign,,,and sometimes it’s just not.
