Today, when I went for my early morning walk, I found myself noticing several animals noticing me. I was also impressed with how close they came to me..swimming, flying and walking. First, as I was just leaving my yard, there was a large wood stork collecting twigs to build its nest. I stood there in surprise and delight as this 3-foot high bird kept walking up to me, step after step, closer and closer, coming within a yard from me. I could have actually leaned forward and pet his little head. I kept talking quietly to it saying, “Aren’t you afraid? Shouldn’t you be spooked? What are you planning to do when you get to me?” And then the neighbor’s dog barked which made it turn on its little bird “heels” and move away from me rather quickly. I was only able to raise my phone and capture a picture of it turning away. After a few steps, it flapped its huge wings and took off flying. It was so unlike any other bird encounter I have ever experienced…a very special moment for sure.
I then started out on my walk moving briskly through the neighborhood. It was a perfect day, and I was thoroughly enjoying the breeze and the warm sun on my face feeling very “connected” to nature…or at least immersed in all that was alive around me. It felt like an energy that was invigorating, beautiful and safe. After a while, I reached a neighborhood pond, and I sat on a bench near the edge of the water. I saw a turtle slide off the bank across from me, and it started swimming determinedly in my direction. It crossed the pond, not stopping until he landed right before me in the water with its eyes on mine. It stayed and stared. I slowly took a video of it right in front of me on the edge of the water where I was sitting. It continued to face me, and I was loving this special feeling of alignment with nature once again. I was wondering why it came so close without having any fear. I felt like I was having another moment of some kind, like the strange connection I had had with the wood stork.
After spending time with the turtle, I stood up to leave even though the turtle never did swim away. I eventually started walking home. I noticed a butterfly following me, in and out of all the bushes that were along the sidewalk on my path. It felt like I was traveling with a friend for over a half a mile, and it kept me company all the way home. As I reached my house, it fluttered away, and I went around to the side yard to check the blossoms on my gardenia plant. Right over me was a blackbird, facing me and caw-cawing away. It looked down on me from the peak of the roof right over my head and kept making its bird call. I looked around to see if there was a nest nearby that the bird might have been protecting. I didn’t see anything that explained its persistence. I raised my phone carefully to take a picture of it because it was so close. It didn’t fly away. I decided to take a video, and it didn’t fly away. In fact, I could have filmed all I liked because it wasn’t flying away. I finally got tired of snapping pictures, embraced the unusual connection once again, and went inside.
As I was shutting the door behind me, I suddenly remembered what the medium told me a couple of weeks ago that now made complete sense. She said my husband’s Spirit had come through, and he said he’s always with me…sometimes as the sun in my face or a breeze. He said he could see me on a bench and also saw I was witnessing some strange bird behavior. And this morning, I most certainly did. I do believe our loved ones are with us. They continue to share this beautiful Universe with us. They are life energy in every form and of different frequencies… and we are one with all of that. Today, for me, he left no doubt.
