Most communications from my late husband start out as attention-getting events that make me think something just broke in the house. That was his personality…never subtle! As time passed, following his transition almost two years ago, I got used to not panicking when lights or thermostats or computers failed. I learned to wait awhile, and voila…they’d come back on! I would notice a timeliness or reason for contact when I looked back on the context. And October 22nd was no different.
As I passed by my front window, the house alarm made it’s blaring four loud warning alerts. I read the alarm pad and saw the problem was coming from a window that was perfectly fine. It was closed, locked and hadn’t been touched or moved. I knew to wait it out because this had happened before, and sure enough, the alarm sounds stopped, and all was fine. Then, while I was waiting, I turned on the light as I went into the garage, As I took a few steps in, the overhead light went out..a fixture of two light bulbs. I stopped short in that darkness, waited a few seconds, and the light went back on. And that’s when it became apparant that maybe my late husband’s spirit was trying to connect with me with these two not-so-subtle signs in a row. I gave it some thought as to what significance they might have had, and it hit me…the date… it was the anniversary of the day we met, October 22nd, 1967, Sweetest Day in Ohio. He always remembered my birthday and our wedding anniversary, but the day we met? Not so often, so this was a pleasant surprise.
Needless to say, I was enjoying his efforts to get my attention, and he wasn’t done yet. About an hour later, I went shopping to get a present from a local Hallmark Store. As I was checking out, there was a large card right in the middle of the counter where I went to put my item down to pay for it. It was a beautiful card that said “Happy Anniversary to my Wife.” That made three signs in just a couple of hours. I was delighted he finally remembered!
